This year I'm getting a regular-sized farm share from Red Fire Farm (again), and a mushroom share. My pickup is on Wednesday; this is the first week.
  • 7 carrots
  • 2 Persian-ish cucumbers
  • a large bunch of pretty red radishes with their greens
  • a big bunch of Red Russian kale
  • 2 large heads of really pretty Boston lettuce
  • a bunch of green garlic
  • a head of Napa cabbage
  • a pound of spinach (which is a lot!)
  • a bunch of curly-leaf parsley (traded for more lettuce; I'm not really inspired by parsley)
  • a third of a pound of shiitake mushrooms

First thoughts: saute the spinach with green garlic and radish greens. Fridge pickle the radishes. A lot of salad with the cucumbers. Some kind of slaw with the Napa and carrot, maybe with a spicy peanut dressing and some of the garlic greens.

I like the idea of the mushroom share - mushrooms are delicious and versatile. I opted not to partake in my school's CSA this year b/c I was splitting it with a coworker and still not getting through all of what we were given. Also, Rick is working at a farmer's market every other weekend and I'm okay with going there, wandering around, and getting the produce I need that way. It's still local farmers, and I get to choose the things I know my family will eat/I can prepare with relative ease. I hope you enjoy the boxes!

Well ...

A pound of spinach is a lot, until you're making green curry with it. Then it starts out overflowing the pot but quickly cooks down to a surprisingly small amount.
