I finally did it: I put in to get a box of organic produce delivered to my house. It feels pretty decadent, somehow; I'm used to picking up farm share produce and bringing it home, or going to the farmer's market and figuring out how much I can carry. Not to mention the whole paying for organics part of the equation. I like supporting sustainable agriculture, though, and organic practice is in line with that. I also like supporting local agriculture, and the company does give preference to local producers. I suspect I'll be getting a farm share next summer in any case (since the ones I've had shares in have also had other projects I support, like getting fresh produce into food pantries, helping people at halfway houses, etc). It's amazing to have so many options, not just Hole (in my pocket) Foods (aka Bread & Wallet).

[boring anecdote about my only dry cleaning done this year]

This Friday and next are the earliest Shabbatot of the year, 3:54 pm. The plus: not only a nice long evening to hang out or go to bed early, but the chance to do things Saturday night. The minus: much less time to prepare food (unless one is smart like I used to be and uses part of Thursday evening). (And despite the wind this week, the eruv is up. Yay!)

I use fabric napkins all the time. No matter what I'm serving/eating, it always just feels a little more decadent (to use your fabulous word!). I don't think I'll ever be one who folds the napkins though (other than the way they get folded when they come out of the dryer).


Again I say - I MISS YOUR COOKING, and I'd fold napkins for YOU every day of the week for some of your ANYTHING! :-)

I like the idea of cloth napkins, but my least favorite chore is laundry, so I haven't yet managed to turn thought into practice. (I think folding them with pleats and stuff would require starch and/or ironing, neither of which is going to happen).
(off topic: I once saw some lovely autumn leaf napkins, and the label said they were dry clean only. Er, what? Napkins? Bizarre.)

Again I say: COME AND VISIT! I'll cook for you, as long as you hold up your end of the napkin deal :-).
If only non-desserts were more shippable...

The produce looks reasonably priced, although I can't tell the quantities.

Really, it's about the same price/delivery as the farm share. So looking at it one way, I'm just continuing my known grocery expenses year round.

Once I get a box, I'll have a much better idea of quantity.
