Random Friday pieces
Dec. 3rd, 2004 01:31 pmI finally did it: I put in to get a box of organic produce delivered to my house. It feels pretty decadent, somehow; I'm used to picking up farm share produce and bringing it home, or going to the farmer's market and figuring out how much I can carry. Not to mention the whole paying for organics part of the equation. I like supporting sustainable agriculture, though, and organic practice is in line with that. I also like supporting local agriculture, and the company does give preference to local producers. I suspect I'll be getting a farm share next summer in any case (since the ones I've had shares in have also had other projects I support, like getting fresh produce into food pantries, helping people at halfway houses, etc). It's amazing to have so many options, not just Hole (in my pocket) Foods (aka Bread & Wallet).
razor's meter: iambic
This site lists hundreds of ways to fold napkins (with photos and directions; very cool. Um, if I had cloth napkins, that is.). Why are all the designs given girl's names?
[boring anecdote about my only dry cleaning done this year]
This Friday and next are the earliest Shabbatot of the year, 3:54 pm. The plus: not only a nice long evening to hang out or go to bed early, but the chance to do things Saturday night. The minus: much less time to prepare food (unless one is smart like I used to be and uses part of Thursday evening). (And despite the wind this week, the eruv is up. Yay!)
