I've got the extended share, so I'll have two pickups in November and December, at the inconvenient time of 2:30-6:30 Friday afternoons (which of course means aiming to get there by 2:30 at the latest, given when Shabbat starts). It'll be strange to have no pickup next week!

This week's haul:
  • a third of a pound of spinach
  • a third of a pound of mesclun
  • a bunch of collards
  • a pumpkin
  • two pounds of potatoes
  • two medium purple kohlrabi
  • a bunch of cilantro (given away; the woman I offered it to gave me her kohlrabi in return)
  • half a pound of green tomatoes
  • a pound and a half of Hakurei turnips
  • a pound and three quarters of carrots
  • a pound and three quarters of yellow onions

I'm rather surprised that there weren't sweet potatoes or leeks, but then I realized that they have to store things for the winter and deep winter shares; it'll be interesting to see what I get. And I'm glad there wasn't bok choy: I still have both heads from last week that I really need to do something with.

First thoughts: pumpkin pie; kohlrabi slaw (perhaps with apple if I make it to a farmer's market); green tomato pie (unless I pickle them, but for some reason, the idea of that is extremely unappealing, perhaps because I saw them when little and never got over it); green salad with turnips; carrot pickles; stew with collards, carrots, onions, and sausage; stir fried bok choy with spicy ground turkey.

The end of the season...

Tomorrow is the end of my farm share as well...the end of the season.
I miss it already!
... and so the seasons go.
SIGH

I'm lucky enough to have a winter share (in two parts technically, but whatever) that will take me to March. And then I'm going to see how I do with whatever I've frozen/canned to get me through to June again.

(The particularly tricky part is having Passover in there, which means clearing a lot of things out that I'd otherwise make last the whole time.)

not only did we have the bok choi, we had the collards, chard, and random other greens from previous weeks. i had [livejournal.com profile] chillguru take all of them and make a mess of greens just to get them taking up less space in the fridge.

*nod* I've been working on finding more space in the fridge myself.

I had one head of bok choy as part of dinner last night. I don't know why it's easier to think of things to do with the collards/kale than the spinach and bok choy that need dealing with faster :-/ Not to mention the salad greens that are just hard to face; salad for 1 is challenging for me when it's cooler out.

:nodnod: we had a simple salad with asiago, cranberries, and apple last night alongside some salmon. but i am sure there's still a ton of greens left. i am more in the mood for stews i this weather.

My impromptu salad was with pear, walnut, and feta, plus some strawberry vinegar I'd made earlier this year. (Along with leftover potato-leek soup.) Still tons left, and I want heartier things in salad in the autumn/winter, when it really is more stew weather. (Which I suppose is why collards are easier to think about, with some sweet potatoes and spicy something in a stew.)

Working on it: pummpkin halves baking now, with seeds to be roasted in a bit for snacking (currently contemplating seasoning them with salt, cumin, and cayenne).
