OK, JB, here's the last installment: Gangster Teeth, part 6.

In the NYTimes this morning, I learned how to get massive quantities of salad greens ready for salad (from this article, but the site requires registration):
'After rinsing eight bags of arugula salad, he [Mr. Roberts] tied the leaves inside a pillowcase and turned on the spin cycle. "Don't put it in the dryer," he warned. "I did that one Christmas and my beautiful lettuces came out all wilted."'

In more a more serious vein (or artery?), according to one poll (numbers of people surveyed and exact wording of questions not given, so who knows how reliable it is), more than half of MA residents support gay marriage (Globe article here).

Let's have a dinner party! You bring the washing machine salad, I'll make the dishwasher salmon. (How do you kosher a dishwasher??)

Kashering a dishwasher depends on the kind of dishwasher it is (whether it can be kashered at all), and how long it's sat without being used for non-kosher stuff...

How about you bring the washing machine salad and I do the dishwasher salmon? (since I have a dishwasher that's not been used for it's intended purpose since I moved in, except when I kashered it some years ago (the question of making it dairy or meat has stumped me, and in the meantime it makes a handy wine rack...)).

Er, at this point, this would be easier to schedule for after Passover...

on second thought

Theoretically, if you were double-wrapping the fish anyway (which would seem pretty reasonable for dishwasher cookery, after all), that would theoretically be enough to keep all the non-kosher cooties at bay.

(Technically, one can make kosher food in a non-kosher oven by keeping the food double-wrapped, and I don't see why this would be any different.)

Perhaps I'm the salad person after all...
Now, how many people are we having that I have to use the washing machine to dry all those greens? ;-)

Actually, I was initially kidding about the dinner party...I was just thinking about all the inappropriate appliances we could use! There must be some way to bake a quiche in my bread machine, and bake bread in my blender! ;-)

But, y'know, I'd actually be happy to co-host a dinner party at some point when your life calms down! Passover's over on the 24th, yes?

Inappropriate appliances

In some bread machines, you can make rice, or jam, or something.

Hm, a whole meal based on bizarre appliance use? I think that's totally possible, somehow. Heck, we've already got a main course and salad, so all we need is a starch, and a dessert, maybe a starter, and we're set! ;-)

Passover ends three Thursdays from now, whatever date that is. The 24th sounds about right.

There's got to be some way I can make grilled cheese sandwiches with my iron...

Sudden remembrance: hearing about Manifold Destiny, a cookbook that gives recipe times in miles driven or something, as the food is (well-wrapped and) cooked on the engine block. Perhaps I should roast some potatoes on my way to your house?

You'd probably just need some parchment paper.

Excellent! I'll have to tell my mom about that one (I remember her getting Queue to stand outside, swing a pillowcase of lettuce around over his head . . .)

I've swung greens-in-a-towel around inside (in the kitchen), amazingly without incident, though not without comment...
