It was hot and humid, and I started toying with the usual summer thought: getting a buzz cut. It'd be cooler, and less maintenance, and no hat head. On the other hand, greater chance of sunburn, none of the usual ways of changing appearance through hair play (braids, barrettes, etc), and there's always the chance I'd look horrible with my hair that short and there's no fix for that other than time. Opinions welcome.
(Of course, today has perfect weather, cool, bright, not humid. Wonderful to be out in.)

Ooh! All of Montaigne's Essays available online. Also Herodotus' Histories. (For those who saw 300, the battle of Thermopylae is in Book 7; Leonidas shows up in 7.204.)

There's going to be a Harvard Yard Tree Walk Saturday, 16 June 2007, at 1 PM, starting at the John Harvard statue.

For the last couple of months, I've felt like I was walking slower than I used to, and I couldn't seem to get up to my old speed. I thought it might be just getting older, but the new sneakers have changed that. Reminder to self: don't wait until there's actual leg pain to replace the shoes!

Quote attributed to Herodotus (I haven't verified this, however): "No man should speak for longer than he can make love."

Cool idea for fundraising: auction single-use cameras that different people have used to take pictures of "what's important." Only the person and the winner will know how the person interpreted this. Kesher (a local Jewish after-school program) did this (auction closes tomorrow).

eta They're putting in putting greens in the little bits of lawn around the Louis Boston store on Newbury St. Weird. (Very satisfying to have putting and putting so close in a real sentence, though :-)

Also, the sunset yestereven was amazing, a fiery rose-orange bowl of molten-ness sinking in a pink sky.

Large box, one third fruit.

  • a bag of eight medium Yukon Gold potatoes
  • a head of cauliflower
  • a medium-large zucchini
  • a bunch of broccoli
  • two large yellow onions
  • a leek
  • two artichokes
  • four ears of corn
  • four large Roma tomatoes
  • 250 grams of strawberries
  • three Valencia oranges
  • four lemons
  • three limes
  • six peaches
  • a clementine

And a dozen eggs. Bounty indeed! (I do envy those who received cherries, though.)

I have to remember to switch to a small box (every other week?) next week. And I won't get a delivery on the 4th of July, though the rest of the week there will be deliveries. Hm. I hope there will be a farm share delivery that week!

Also, today's random fact: gerbils are illegal in the state of California.
