It was hot and humid, and I started toying with the usual summer thought: getting a buzz cut. It'd be cooler, and less maintenance, and no hat head. On the other hand, greater chance of sunburn, none of the usual ways of changing appearance through hair play (braids, barrettes, etc), and there's always the chance I'd look horrible with my hair that short and there's no fix for that other than time. Opinions welcome.
(Of course, today has perfect weather, cool, bright, not humid. Wonderful to be out in.)

Ooh! All of Montaigne's Essays available online. Also Herodotus' Histories. (For those who saw 300, the battle of Thermopylae is in Book 7; Leonidas shows up in 7.204.)

There's going to be a Harvard Yard Tree Walk Saturday, 16 June 2007, at 1 PM, starting at the John Harvard statue.

For the last couple of months, I've felt like I was walking slower than I used to, and I couldn't seem to get up to my old speed. I thought it might be just getting older, but the new sneakers have changed that. Reminder to self: don't wait until there's actual leg pain to replace the shoes!

Quote attributed to Herodotus (I haven't verified this, however): "No man should speak for longer than he can make love."

Cool idea for fundraising: auction single-use cameras that different people have used to take pictures of "what's important." Only the person and the winner will know how the person interpreted this. Kesher (a local Jewish after-school program) did this (auction closes tomorrow).

eta They're putting in putting greens in the little bits of lawn around the Louis Boston store on Newbury St. Weird. (Very satisfying to have putting and putting so close in a real sentence, though :-)

Also, the sunset yestereven was amazing, a fiery rose-orange bowl of molten-ness sinking in a pink sky.

You will probably look an awful lot like your little brother if you get a buzz cut. Just in case that helps the imagination any. :)

If I don't get to MASSFILC, your nephew and I may very well see you at the tree walk...

He's got his hair that short?! Wow.

And cool. I'm about 90% sure about going on the walk.

How about a nice bob?

I'm at that stage now (well, it's growing out), and it's fine, but boring. Plus, it grows out too quickly.

There's nothing boring about nice bobs.

Not sure whether my hair qualifies as nice in this case.

But if this was a compliment, thanks :-)

I've always wanted to buzz my hair! I never get the courage up, though.

Yeah, I'm too nervous that I'll look horrible.

With a slight rearrangement, you could have "putting" twice in a row and "in" twice in a row - surely that'd be even better? :)

I recommend women get haircuts only after the first two days of their period - definitely not around ovulation. Short hair gets hat hair....I have mine in longish bob, so I can use bandanas and bed head at this length actually looks kinda sexy -- When I went from superlong (my waist) to a pixie cut, it took a year, with three interim steps...that was in the late eighties...shoulder, bob, and 2" short...

Why not haircutting around ovulation? (I've never paid attention to where I am in my cycle when getting haircuts before.)

Mine's currently in a sort of bob, but it's not the right shape and starting to annoy me. New shape, new length, something needs to change.

"No man should speak for longer than he can make love."
Damn, that would actually make some very verbose men I know talk even longer!!!

I suppose it depends on which activities one includes ;-)
