A week ago Friday, I was walking home from Market Basket, and saw a bunch of fire trucks on Tyler St. I made sure it wasn't the Asylum, then watched a bit as one of the firemen opened a hydrant to douse the icky-colored smoke coming out of (one of?) the townhouse across the street. Luckily, they're not complete, so in addition to no one being injured, the only material losses would be to the developer/builder, who presumably had insurance.

This past Friday night, I went out to visit friends, and there were at least four fire trucks blocking my street. A ladder truck went up to the third story on a house across the street and two down, while I watched another fire person (female this time; firewoman looks as odd to me as fireperson, and replacing "man" with "officer" as with police doesn't seem right either. What gender-neutral term am I missing?) open a hydrant, though something seemed wrong in one of the hoses or in a truck, as some of the water wasn't contained. Anyway, the residents were in their driveway, the lights on in the ground floor, and there wasn't any obvious reason for all the fire trucks. The fireman who'd gone into the house came out again, and the rest of the firemen seemed to be packing up as I went on my way, and the house is still there, looking the same, so I'm assuming it turned out to be something minor.

Still, I'd like this coming Friday to involve no deployed fire trucks, please.

Firefighter. And yes, may you have a firefighter-free Friday.
