This was going to be a nice narrative rather than list-y post, but the Internet is not accessible at my apartment right now, so I'm grabbing connectivity at the library, and have to dash home momentarily.

First day lunch for two
  • grape juice, challah rolls (white wheat and barley flours)
  • corn chowder
  • green salad, possibly with feta
  • baked haddock in tomato sauce
  • brown rice with chickpeas
  • sauteed greens and mushrooms (green kale, what might have been turnip greens, beet greens, and king oyster mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, and brown beech mushrooms) with sesame soy dressing
  • lemon ricotta pie (riffed from this since connectivity was lost)

Second day dinner for seven
  • wine, challah (same as above, but a loaf with a ladder on it)
  • olives, pickled carrots
  • corn chowder
  • lasagna with greens and mushrooms (see the list above, but no sesame soy dressing)
  • green salad
  • roasted sweet potatoes
  • boozy strawberry rhubarb pie with ice cream
  • liqueurs

Second day lunch is a minyan potluck; I'm likely to bring salad, given the farm share pickup tomorrow (likely to be in the rain, ugh).

Then I'm bringing a picnic dinner second day for two. There might be other leftovers brought, depending on what else is left.
  • brown rice with chickpeas, possibly with tomato sauce
  • some kind pickles
  • greens and mushrooms
  • pineapple

Chag sameach to those celebrating!

First day lunch's salad: green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, pistachios, pineapple, and feta.
The lemon ricotta pie needed more lemon (at least two lemonsworth of juice and zest), and probably less baking time. The edges, where it browned, were much sweeter than the rest. It was dry enough that adding golden raspberries canned in their juice was nice.

Second dinner's salad: green leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, cucumber, feta. Wine: Gedeo Petite Syrah 2006.
I subbed more haddock for the chowder due to the circuit breaker for the oven and plata blowing that morning. (And the rest of the meal was cold too.)
The pie had far too much liquid, even with the cornstarch I'd added; consider lightly cooking the rhubarb in advance next time.

Picnic dinner ended up being challah, hummus, greens'n'mushrooms, roasted sweet potatoes, pineapple, and strawberry liqueur.

Ladder?

I looked in my challah cookbook, and it had a special shape for Shavuot: a boule (essentially) with a ladder on top, symbolizing the going up to Sinai (and/or going up in holiness). And there was mention of 'ladder' and 'Sinai' having the same gematria, but I'm not sure that works. It was cute enough to use, anyway...
