  • rolls, grape liquid
  • hummus
  • vegetable soup: onion, sweet potato, carrot, kale, parsley, salt and pepper, pureed
  • green salad: lettuce, feta, tangerine pink grapefruit, mixed olives (read: the Butcherie had no kalamatas)
  • wheat berries with sauteed onions, mushrooms, green peppers, and tomato sauce
  • red sauerkraut
  • roasted potatoes, red onions, and sweet potatoes
  • apple pie with some boozy fruit and marzipan

(Last minute cancellation meant pink grapefruit in the salad, and boozy fruit in the pie. Silver linings...)

Oh, and also, about the last week of fish share, with pickup on Monday: I hadn't mentioned it before, because, for the first time, they had a fish I couldn't use. Monkfish has fins, but no scales. I showed up, and told the guy, who was very apologetic, made a notation on his sheet, and offered me a fish if I came up to Gloucester. As it turns out, this was not necessary, since a woman offered to pay me for the monkfish, so it was a wash. A bit disappointing as an endnote, though.

Also, finished off the bottle of Privilege, by Binyamina, which the label said was a muscat of Alexandria, a sweet white wine, but really was more tawny, and sweet without being cloying. I really like this, and it would be worth finding more of it (this bottle came from duty-free in Tel Aviv).

Bummer about the fish. I didn't know monkfish was local to you (well, to eastern US in general). I don't think I've ever seen it for sale.

I think I've seen it at the fish counter of at least one supermarket before, but intermittently; it's not a constant there like tuna, salmon, or bluefish.

eta Oh, and while I was disappointed, it was an honest mistake, the guy apologized and made a note for future reference, and I wasn't out any money or anything, so I'm counting it as not a minus, even though not a plus, obviously.

Yeah, no harm and an honest mistake, but still disappointing. I hope this week works out better.

I don't think I've ever seen bluefish either. :-) Salmon and tuna are staples here, along with assorted whitefish (tilapia, orange roughy, basa, cod loins, etc) and usually catfish (N/A for us). Trout and snapper make appearances but can't be counted on.

This week is fish-share free, as last week was the last of that share. My understanding is that the next fish share will be offered in May.

Really, no bluefish? And trout is occasional? I wouldn't've guessed that. I think orange roughy is less frequent fresh (though often available frozen), but tilapia, salmon, cod, tuna, trout, catfish, and more are reliably around, bass a bit less so. (Also depends on whether I go to the supermarket or the fishmonger's.)

What color was the soup once pureed?

Dark greenish, though the flavor of the orange veggies came through loud and clear.
