Today I’d had the intent to finally put the Pesach kitchen away so I can start cooking, but that hasn’t happened (yet? Maybe posting this will get me to do it?). I was already underslept by a lot, and today’s must-do’s were emotionally raw.
Mom’s friend LilaL, who I’ve known for a couple of decades, died on April 7, and the funeral was today at my mom’s shul in Worcester. I Zoomed in to the noon-thirty service, which had a number of speakers, including children and grands, plus my mom on behalf of the local shul friends. When she lived independently and I was visiting Mom, I always joined them (and Lila’s husband Marvin, a wonderful gardener) at their table at kiddush lunch. Mom and I vacationed with her on Nantucket one time, already after the point when her spoken language was becoming challenging, but she was always good to spend time with. Also, lovely fashion sense.
That ran a bit under an hour; I left as the coffin was being escorted out of the chapel so I could join another Zoom, already in progress, a gathering to remember
minoanmiss, her love of life, her art, her care for folks (friends and acquaintances), her baking and cooking, her love for kids, and more, which lasted almost three hours, so even late by half an hour, there was time to hear many people’s words, poetry, and songs.
And after that, I managed approximately nothing useful, which is unhelpful because the coming week is somewhat full. I’d really like to never have two commemorations like this in a single day ever again.
