Food for Shabbat
Feb. 5th, 2010 03:57 pmSomehow, Friday snuck up on me this week; I had no thoughts about what to make (other than the usual "use up the farm share" variety, plus a touch of "it's been a while since I've had fleishigs"), no guests invited (which usually comes with some restrictions or preferences). Nada. So I looked at what I had, figured out what I could get at Trader Joe's, and came up with a somewhat experimental menu.
- flatbreads, grape liquid
- chowder: red and yellow onions*^, potatoes*^, frozen corn*, soy milk*, with cod bits*^ to be added later
- roasted sweet potatoes* with onions*^, black pepper, and cumin
- chicken legs baked with red onion*^, cubed apple^, cabbage*^, the failed apple pickles from this fall*^, and some black pepper and brown sugar
- possibly a green salad, if I'm inspired or something (I have lots of mesclun*^/lettuce*^ to get through)
- baked fruit compote: raisins, boozy orange pieces*, walnuts, cinnamon, and grape juice baked in a covered casserole
* organic
