Food for Shabbat, etc.
Jun. 19th, 2009 07:29 pmI've been invited out to dinner, so this is for lunch, with at least two and possibly up to five people showing up.
I thought I was going to sautee the broccoli and some carrots with onions, garlic, ginger, and spicy tofu, but I ran out of steam, and it felt like I have enough as it is. So, later in the week instead.
Also, I hadn't made it through last week's lettuces before this week's share appeared, so I've been trying to make more green salad. So, last night's dinner was a salad of lettuces, mesclun, scallions, kohlrabi, and cod (all of it local and organic, other than the vinaigrette). And today's lunch was another salad of lettuces, kohlrabi, cucumber, carrot, scallion, and feta (everything but the cucumber and feta local and organic).
Hrm. It's all food and biking recently, and with the rain around here, that leaves food... Perhaps I need to broaden my scope.
- grape liquid, bread
- pickles, olives, zaatar in olive oil
- cold not-really-vichyssoise: fish stock*^, onions, and potatoes with cod , pureed, likely garnished with bits of scallion and perhaps a bit of Greek yogurt
- green salad: lettuces*^, mesclun*^, scallions*^, tomato, cucumber, and feta
- kohlrabi*^, carrot*^, and Hakurei turnip*^ slaw with lemon* juice and zest, scallion*^, minced garlic scape*^, salt and sugar
- sauteed greens*^ (kohlrabi, turnip, spinach) with onions and preserved lemon*
- roasted zukes*^ and onions
- roasted beets*^, potatoes, and onions (though the roasted veggies might get mixed together, since they've shrunk so much)
- When Pigs Fly lemon-blueberry bread pudding cake^, possibly garnished with Greek-style yogurt with honey*^ and/or boozy strawberries*^

Date: 2009-06-21 01:32 am (UTC)The salad lacked mesclun in favor of lettuce.
The slaw turned out reasonably well, but would have been more what I'd intended with the vegetables more in julienne cuts.
