Such an amazing speech! Thanks to Currentlee, who graciously opened his house, I saw it in real time (a first), except for the minute or so that the idiotic cable company did its weekly emergency override check.

McCain gave a nice concession speech; it bothers me how many people booed so often. Both speeches reached out to the other side, but the Obama crew seemed to get the message. And that seems to me to define the differences.

I think I understand now how people felt about the Kennedy election.

I biked home, and there were some cheering people on the streets :-).

And happy new puppy to the Obama girls :-). It'll be nice to have kids in the White House.

Please let there not be that one deadly similarity to Kennedy... we need someone who is a unifier, who has a vision that pulls people together, so badly.

I know - I am so scared there will be assassination attempts.

I'm looking forward to seeing what First Puppy the Obama girls pick. And I'm looking forward to following Malia's career :) She's supposed to be quite bright and poised.

I haven't paid much attention to Obama's (nuclear (Isn't there another word for this?) family, other than knowing his wife is also a lawyer, and he had kids. I look forward to learning more :-)

I also kept thinking last night that he was holding up well, as an avel; I had to keep reminding myself that mourning customs vary extremely and I should stop projecting.

I imagine he felt he had to look strong as president-elect and not show his grieving side, other than a respectful mention of his grandmother.

Definitely. I think I'm just projecting Jewish expectations on him, somehow, which makes no sense whatsoever.

We were irritated with the boos, too.

Gabe and I were tearful during Obama's speech. I'm not sure I've ever cried about politics before that night! We were very moved.

I can't wait to see what kind of puppy they choose!
It will be wonderful to have kids in the White House!

I reread Backstairs at the White House recently, and there's a vibrant scene when the Roosevelts move in with their kids and assorted mayhem, after a rather quiet family, and how much happier the staff was with kids around to keep things lively (in a good way :-). I'm sure things are different now with how staffing works and all, but I still thought of that.

I hope the momentum continues; there's nothing we can't achieve if we all pull together.

What a wonderful icon! :-)
