I'm out second night (read: I don't have to come up with a shehechiyanu fruit :-), and the rest of the meals I failed abysmally to find any guests, so it's going to be mix and match, whatever I'm in the mood for.

pareve
  • grape juice, wine
  • challah, rolls
  • Jonagold apples^ and honey^
  • roasted eggplant^ and onions^
  • hummus (with kalamata olives and/or with pine nuts, abu ghosh)
  • pomegranate
  • mostly white salad: jicama, Jonagold apples^, scallions, with a lime-ginger dressing (possibly some pomegranate seeds)
  • baby artichokes
  • red and green (ok, mostly red, at this point) sauerkraut*^
  • possible: sauerkraut*^, apples^, onions^, and vegan spicy sausage

meat
  • vegetable chicken soup with barley (from Shabbat)
  • chicken* baked with potatoes^, onions^, and carrots
  • baby bok choi (green and red)*^, yu toi, onions^, mushroom, and garlic*^ stir-fried with tofu and/or ground turkey and Szechuan spicy sauce (fleishig either way, since the wok is fleishig)

dairy
  • cheese (asadero, havardi, cheddar; which might end up in a cheese omelet with caramelized onions*^ and leeks*^)
  • rugelach
  • Greek-style yogurt with fruit (or jam, or something, since eating it straight unfortunately never appeals)
    *organic
    ^local

I leave an electric burner on a timer, as well as the hot plate (and the urn, maybe, though it's warm enough that hot drinks aren't really likely for me), so really, the only things that must be done in advance are the things requiring the oven. The eggplant is in now, and the chicken can go in once it's done. The stir fry, sauerkraut-apple dish, and the omelet can be made on yom tov, and stir fries (also omelets) are generally better immediately, so that's fine.

And as always, I feel underprepared for the other parts of Rosh Hashana. I've been sluglike, and not taken the time to consider how I need to change, how I've hurt people and how I can remedy that. So again, I end up with the standard disclaimer: if I have hurt you in any way, please let me know how I can make it up to you (username at livejournal email works, among other ways in getting in touch). And I can't think of anyone who might need to ask forgiveness from me, so consider yourself forgiven, if you had any concerns in that direction.

Shana tova u'metuka to those starting 5769, and EĪd mubārak to those finishing Ramadan.

I never did get around to making dairy food; just as well I didn't have to turn the kitchen over. And I never got around to the stir-fry, either.

The roasted eggplant was finished at dinner the first night.

First lunch I had a guest (yay!). We were both starved after long davening, so the meal was rather piecemeal, things appearing when ready (so soup was lateish). The mostly-white salad had a lime-chipotle mustard-honey dressing, and once it had a chance to meld, turned out to be pretty good, very crunchy. Worth doing again (which is good, because I've still got a bunch of jicama left!).

Lunch today was soup-focused, so I won't have too much left over. There's still some chicken and veggies left.
