Boston Organics delivery
Dec. 21st, 2005 05:34 pmLarge box, one third fruit (theoretically, anyway; it always seems like more than that). I intend to switch so every other box is all vegetables, since that's what I've been needing more.
The newsletter mentions red grapefruit and Meyer lemons, which I would've loved (more than thetangerines tangelos). Ah, well. Plus, they need to deliver more alliums of any kind.
*Luckily not naval oranges, since I don't have proper accoutrements for sea-going citrus. (And what about the naval oranges turned rogue? They'd be ARRR-anges, though I don't know how they'd wear an eyepatch, wield a cutlass, or have a parrot that didn't eat it for lunch.)
- a big bunch of spinach
- two bunches of red-stemmed chard
- three stalks of broccoli
- a bag of oyster mushrooms (a third of a pound? a half?)
- half a palm of ginger
- six potatoes
- two beets
- four bananas
- three Anjou pears
- four Pink Lady apples
- three navel* oranges
- three

Date: 2005-12-21 11:51 pm (UTC)I should check out this Boston Organics. I can't imagine complaining about too much fruit. Yesterday I had a lot of cherries and grapes and 3 kiwis and a banana, today I had two clementines, lots of grapes, 3 kiwis, and I'm thinking about that banana... I really miss Israel because of the cheap produce. I also miss summer.

Date: 2005-12-22 03:23 am (UTC)I eat fruit, but I eat a lot more veggies, and I miss veggies more if I don't have some around.
I miss Israeli produce too... When I was last there on vacation I had to go to Machane Yehudah to get stuff for Israeli salad, the kind I mostly don't make here, for some reason. And watermelon's never 'shekel a kilo'.
I don't miss summer, though; it's too humid for me to be really comfortable.

Date: 2005-12-22 12:54 pm (UTC)Synchronicity: I just made two jars of preserved lemons this morning. Yay! I've been out for far too long, and oddly enough, the organic lemons at Market Basket were cheaper than the non-organic. (So I got a bag of eight, which is three lemons/pint, plus one for juice (assuming I squeeze the other lemons some too), which leaves me two lemon peels to add to the citrus peels I want to make candied peel from.)
