  • two leeks (I picked large ones.)
  • two winter squashes (I picked butternut.)
  • half a pound of salad greens
  • half a pound of spinach
  • a pound of tomatoes
  • a stalk of broccoli
  • a pepper (I chose purple.)
  • a head of lettuce
  • a bunch of white hakurai turnips with greens
  • a pound of beets
  • 1.75 pounds of sweet potatoes (lots of them were tiny and cute!)

And the Boston Organics delivery:
  • four MacIntosh apples
  • two ears of corn
  • two stalks of broccoli
  • two bags = 9 bananas (!)
  • a delicata squash
  • two tomatoes
  • a green pepper
  • four oranges
  • one grapefruit
  • two onions (just in time; I need more onions!)

There was an article in today's NYTimes about kugels, and along with the more formal ones (one for Yerushalmi kugel, something I've never yet attempted, partly due to fear: a friend gave herself a nasty burn on the caramel once.), there was a description of one that sounded most excellent, a noodle kugel with duck eggs, farmer cheese, and sour cherries. After looking at a guide to farmstands and such, it looks like I can get duck eggs if I'd like, and farmer cheese (and noodles) are easy, but this year I didn't get any sour cherries. I wonder if using cranberries with a bit of sugar would work.

Bonus sandwich track: today I made the best sandwiches I've accomplished in a long, long time: When Pigs Fly six-grain-and-pumpkinseed bread, a thin layer of humus, slices of turkey shwarma (from the bone-in turkey thigh that had been shwarama'd, gotten at the Butcherie), slices of farm tomatoes, and leaves of lettuces of diverse sorts.

I have (courtesy of [personal profile] vettecat) a very good, very easy (non-caramel-requiring) Yerushalmi kugel recipe, if you want it.

I'll always take good recipes! The Times article had an interesting one, with everything happening in one pot.

Er, that would be a Yerushalmi recipe in particular, though there were other kugel recipes there.

[personal profile] vettecat's recipe is also one-pot, at least until you put it in the pan to put it in the oven.

The recipe is here (http://www.asknomi.com/kugel.html).
