Wednesday's lunch with Gnomi and Mabfan was at the Post Office Square Milk Street Cafe location. (Hm. That sentence looks wrong. We went to the Milk Street Cafe, but not the one on the street of the same name*, but the Post Office Square location instead.) The odd part about it is that it has both milchigs and fleishigs. Inside the kiosk, there are cold meat sandwiches, already wrapped, sent over from their catering location, I believe, plus a lot of their usual milchig menu. Outside, there are two fleishig carts that make sandwiches, including a couple of hot ones. I'm still a bit surprised that the Vaad certifies them; they have been known to be very conservative (lower-case c, definitely) at times. Anyway. It was a good lunch, especially because of the company.
* I'm assuming that if I'm referring to the thing with the name first, "eponymous" isn't correct. But I wanted to use it anyway. So here it is.

Wednesday's serendipity was running into ZZBottom at Harvest, with time to chat a while, which was of course good, even had there not been a very nice compliment tossed in. (Thank you!)

Thursday's serendipity was the WBOS-sponsored concert at Copley, still going on after a rather boring visit to the gym (but I went, which is better than not). The John Butler Trio was playing, and I was impressed with their guitar work. I might look into going to their concert at the Somerville Theatre October 2, at the end of their tour.

Queue forwarded me a link to a Craigslist ad for my old job and the step up from that. The higher-level job required 5 years in the industry; this for the promotion they wouldn't give me after 11 years of experience (no bitterness here, whatsoever). How satisfying it was to find two typos in the ad.

I wonder when Teddywolf's and Tigerbright's baby will get his own LJ :-).

I'm in the top 5 in Boston. Whee!

I couldn't think of anything I particularly wanted to cook last night, so I didn't (dinner was previously-sauteed eggplant and onion, much yellow watermelon, and two squares of very dark chocolate). I'm not very much interested in cooking, for some reason; I need inspiration, something that will be exciting to make. Perhaps related: I now know it's much easier to peel watermelon rind before it's boiled. Sigh. It's taking ages to peel the rind to make the pickles/chutney. Frustrating.

On the plus side, my apartment is cleaner. The desk-cleaning was cathartic, almost enough for me to take a day off and get more done around the house.

Some free museums in Boston.
  • Boston Fire Museum, 344 Congress St., 617-482-1344. Open Sat only from noon-4 p.m. or by appointment. Features the history of firefighting in Boston. (Hey, anyone interested in making an appointment sometime? It'd be more fun to go with people.)
  • Commonwealth Museum, Massachusetts Archives Building, 220 Morrissey Blvd., 617-727-9268. Museum about Massachusetts, across from the JFK Library.
  • McMullen Museum of Art, Boston College, 140 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, 617-552-8100. BC's art museum.
  • Museum of Afro-American History, African Meeting House, 46 Joy St., 617-725-0022. History of African-Americans in Boston. Located on Beacon Hill.
  • Museum of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, 4th floor, Faneuil Hall, 617-227-1638. Open Mon-Fri 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.. The museum houses artifacts of the oldest chartered military organization in the Western Hemisphere. (The leader of which reads the Declaration of Independence from the Old State House every Fourth of July.)
  • U.S.S. Constitution Museum, Charlestown Navy Yard, Charlestown, 617-426-1812.

Plus, the Photographic Resource Center at BU is free every Thursday and the last weekend of the month ($3 at other times).

You've fluffed a tag in your post somewhere - I'd suspect a missing / after "John Butler Trio" :)

Ooh no, it's a whole extra <a> after the link, now I've looked at the source ... and for some reason shows up in my lj-style and not yours.

Shows up in mine, too. Was wondering why she wanted all that text bolded. Thought maybe she wanted to emphasize the fact that she found two typos in that ad … as well as the preceding and following paragraphs!

Fixed, I think (since it still looks the same to me).

Also, a lot of the bigger museums have at least some hours that are free.

You sure they weren't trolls/easter eggs?

No, I'm not sure, but the lower-level one didn't have typos. I don't assume the department head writes the description anyway; it's probably someone in HR who does, so it's not the same level of satisfaction, anyway.

Either when he asks us for a supervised one, or is old enough to get his own without having to be supervised. In the meantime, you'll just have to deal with our updates about him in our own LJs. :p

It's a matter of having the time.

Though you get the whole food/shabbos thing, unlike my father, so visiting over a weekend is more reasonable than it was for us to go to Florida this past weekend.

P.S. But I really, really, really appreciate the offer and I will for sure keep it in mind!

Oh, I know it's just far enough that it's a nuisance to get up here, especially with small person. But if it works out sometime, well, yay.
