For ArtsFirst, someone brought out a set of dorm furniture, putting it on the grass in the Yard with a sign on a nearby tree: "The Public Life of Private Spaces." The furniture has gone now, but the sign remains, and still seems apropos, though with a slightly different emphasis for "private."

A new Diana Wynne Jones book is out! Great excitement (tempered with a pang: Elka would've loved to have read it). Not only that, but Joan Bauer is coming out with a new book next month, too. Yay!

I seem to have managed to misplace my T pass last night while running errands. Incredibly annoying. It's one of the problems I can throw money at, but still annoying. At least it's the right month, with so few commuting days left for me. (I should post on the bulletin board at work to ask for a May pass once the month is over, since I'll need it for getting a discount on the car insurance.)

A use for kudzu: reducing drinking (of alcohol, of course). And here I'd thought of it as just a pestilential weed.

I ran into an orker on the train last night, someone I barely know. Of course, he defaulted to TV chat, at which I'm fairly useless. And I don't know anything about sports, either. I don't mind, except sometimes I feel awkward about not being able to do social chat on the most usual topics.

My left knee has been acting up for days now, not the usual twinges that the kneecap might move, but something else, that seems more random, though perhaps linked to twisting sorts of movement. I so do not need this right now, when I'm going to be schlepping luggage in a couple of days. It also makes me feel old. Sigh.

that article on kudzu is really interesting. Reducing drinking by increasing intoxication is an approach I have never seen before

Regarding the T pass... if I recall correctly from my days of T pass ownership, you only need 11 months out of the 12 to get the insurance rebate... still worth trying to get a pass just incase you loose another one or something.

What I wonder is if the kudzu will lead people to drinking more, if they want a buzz anyway; this way they can get it to last longer for cheaper.

Thanks for the T pass info. Yeah, I'm still going to ask (I'm a bit of a perfectionist anyway, so having a whole year will be satisfying in and of itself).

Sorry about your T pass. I lost mine two Januarys running. This most recent one, I was paranoid about doing it again.

I'm glad to see they've found a use for kudzu. How long do you think it will take before Bud is adding it directly to their beer?

Some people punch them so they can be on key rings or ID chains or something; I might start doing that. Of course, the stupid part is that I remember taking the T pass out of my pocket while paying for something last night, and I remember thinking I should be extra certain it made it back into my pocket.

Bud, or whoever makes that caffeine and ginseng enhanced beer-product. And I can see that going over really well at frat parties, too. Ick.

That's what happened with me and my calendar the other week, the mindfulness regarding replacing it in the pocket, keeping track of it and all, then losing it (and going crazy about it).

Oh, a calendar would be much worse! Cheaper, I suppose (except for replacing), but a much greater loss in terms of information to be replaced, and general stress.

You've got it exactly. Especially the general stress.

Just as an FYI: if your pass is paid for by payroll deductions at work (I have no idea if yours is) then you can use the payments on your paystubs in order to get the discount - if you have the paystubs, that is.

Good to know, thanks. Since yes, it's paid for by payroll deductions. I don't have the paystubs, but that's because I haven't printed them out. (I hate that they don't send us a copy directly, but there's nothing I can do about that.)
