Storm!

Ten minutes ago, I noticed darker clouds moving in across the already-overcast sky, making my office dark.

Five minutes ago, I saw a brief flash of lightning, and the many-seconds-later thunder.

And then it started raining.

And then it started pouring.

And there was wind.

And more thunder and lightning.

I hope my windows are closed enough....

And I hope the rain has (at least mostly) let up by 5:00.

Pretty likely; it's almost done here, and fluffy clouds already coming by, with bits of blue sky visible, though I can still hear some thunder.

and I hope my bike dries up soon; I rode in today.
I think I'm taking the bus home and getting the bike tomorrow.

Gah! How long does your bike take to dry?

variable.
In any case, I put a bag over the seat, so that'll be okay. The handlebar grips (foam) get really icky-feeling, but I can deal with that. I wish I'd brought my helmet inside, but I'd locked it onto the bike.
The storm seems to have passed over, and the rain is almost stopped, so I might just try to ride home anyway in a little bit.

I am very very glad that I have found a place near my office where I can park my bike under an overhang. I'm hoping another storm does not blow in and hit when I am leaving work.

Oh, I so wish there was anyplace around here with covered bike parking, but I work in Harvard Yard, and I've never seen any around here; nor can I bring my bike inside with me.
I'm envious of your good fortune. :)

And I'm envious of you both for having bike commutes :-).

I've biked to work occasionally, but it's almost an hour in each direction plus showering time and a change of clothes... not really feasible for me to do most of the time even when I'm in good enough shape to handle the huge hill that's on every route I've tried.

MIT is one of the very places I've seen with significant amounts of sheltered bike parking. I don't know why more places don't put up shelters, or find places that work as sheltered parking, especially when those places (Harvard, T stations) get a lot of bicyclists.

Out here (Needham) the rain has already stopped, and there are sizeable patches of blue visible among the clouds.

I always get nervous about my brakes being wet, though the rest isn't lovely either (plus my bike doesn't have fenders, so with wet roads there's a decent chance of a stripe up my back, which I hate).

I've not used foam handlebar grips; perhaps they'd help keep my wrists from being jarred so much. Hm.

The sky is significantly brighter now here in Harvard Square. I think I'll be able to bike home. Wet brakes sucks, but will work themselves out as long as it's not still actively raining. My bike has excellent fenders, so at least that makes many things easier.

I hope my computers didn't blow up. Maybe Asia Meow unplugged them for me.

I hope not. Maybe all the lightning went to the B line, and nowhere else in Boston.

The computers were fine, despite the cat's lack of effort. Really, as an elderly cat, he's taking this retirement thing too far.

yes! it looked absolutely phenomenal outside for about 10 minutes. now it's all sunny again (time to slip home, then ;)
it was almost like a blizzard, the rain was so hard.

Somehow "blizzard" and "rain" just don't go together in my head. "Blizzard" and "flower petals," though...

Your front windows are shut.

Mostly shut, anyway. I tend to leave all the windows a bit open during the day, and if the wind gets really gusty while it's raining, there'll still be water in the house. This time, it didn't seem to be a problem :-).
