I forgot to mention that I know a really good neuromuscular message guy out in Lenox...which isn't local at all, but he might know someone local. It's better than chiropractic- it's moving the muscles so they relax themselves.
My mum knows a few, but last I checked, they weren't covered by my health plan. That doesn't mean they're not covered by yours, though, so I'll check in with her for the names? (For a while it seemed like everyone she knew was suddenly becoming chiropractors and moving to the boston area. Weird.)
I don't know whether my health plan covers chiropractic or not, but I have a medical savings account that will cover it if not (Hm... perhaps I should've put more in this year... it's only March. Phooey.). So, yes, recommendations would be good, especially if based on experience with rather than knowledge of.
Not sure what exactly the problem is, but you may want to go to a physiatrist, rather than a chiro. They take into account the musculature, rather than just the skeletal system. I've not had amazing results with chiro, though I have with physical therapy.
[The problem is the continuing pain in my lower (lowest) back, compounded by an aching knee. The back is happy walking, the knee isn't. Neither particularly like lying down, and sitting is so-so.]
Yep. Go to Spaulding Rehab. There's one in Medford, or in Boston, and maybe other places too. They have doctors and physical therapists who specialize in body mechanics and muscular problems. I know two of the doctors at Medford: Dr. Audette and Dr. Karli. There may be others there. But the key will be to get you in to see one of the phys. therapists who will really spend time with you.
And it may be that all you need to do is get a referral from your primary care dr. to Spaulding for phys. therapy, and you'll be all set. I didn't see a Spaulding dr for my current round of therapy. Just got the referral directly to phys therapy.
