Amazingly, this storm was fairly accurately forecasted, This meant that the city's snow emergy was called for not long after the snow started flying Sunday midday. I was lucky, having followed my usual dictum of parking on the correct side of a side street so as not to be plowed in (and not having to move the car). This time, even people had to move their cars from the main street I'm on had a fairly easy time, with so many people out of town for Xmas.

I'd thought about going to a gathering on the coast, but with the snow emergency, wimped out in favor of parking, especially since I had work on Monday. Except that the blizzard came early enough, and the government declared it early enough, that the office closed (announced via work email; thank goodness someone forwarded it to me :-). The snow kept coming until noonish, leaving perhaps a foot and a half, though it was hard to tell with all the high winds.

The wind made it cold, too, which I noticed when I finally got myself out of the house with my cross-country skis headed for the library. And that was a good plan, except that either I didn't remember the right footgear as cross-country ski boots, or how to snap into the skis, which either way is embarrassing. It was fricking cold, and just the short walk to the library and back were enough to have my fingers tingling as they defrosted, despite wool-and-fleece mittens.

This morning, it took about half an hour to excavate the car, getting almost down to pavement. It took as long as it did partly because I had to carry the snow down the block some; there wasn't room for it all next to the car. At least I got a bit of snow-related exercise...

The streets were mostly ok, the smaller ones a bit slower than usual, but otherwise fine. However, with so many people trapped elsewhere, traffic was much better than usual, in both directions.

Now all I have to do is figure out the skis...
