Sun! Actual sun!
May. 29th, 2003 10:13 amYesterday I saw some light blue sky briefly between banks of clouds, but this morning, there was actual sunshine, and a reasonably clear sky. It's already clouding over, but it was nice to feel the sun on my arms; I suppose that will be it for this week.
If the clouds are as wonderful as they were yesterday afternoon, though, it would be ok. Instead of a flat sky of grey, there were layers of distinct clouds, ranging from almost white through all the greys and grey-blues through to extremely dark grey-black, where the thunderstorm was. I wasn't really in it, unfortunately, but I could see the lightning, and hear the thunder, which is always a good thing (and two extra brachot, too [1]). I always like thunderstorms, the wild majesty of it all, though there was one time the thunder and lightning came at the same time and my house shook; that was exciting, but something I don't need to repeat often.
At least all the green things are very very green (and with all the snow and rain we've had this year, I don't want to hear any stories about drought in August!), and the plants on my porch seem to be growing quickly even without much direct sunlight. And I rather like having an extended spring, before leaping into the hot humid weather the weather people assume everyone likes.
[1] There are blessings people say daily or weekly (over food, in prayers, to mark the specialness of Shabbat, etc), while there are others that are situational, such as seeing the first blooming fruit tree in the spring (one I always seem to forget to say at the right time), seeing a king, seeing a rainbow, etc. And there are special blessings when you see lightning and when you hear thunder (one is approximately "who made the wonders of creation" and the other is "whose might fills the world").
