Nice enough weather for an outside pickup!

  • one head of green cabbage (squashed sphere shape)
  • a stalk of Brussels sprouts
  • two pounds of red onions
  • three pounds of sweet potatoes
  • a winter squash (I chose acorn)
  • a pound of apples (non organic)
  • a pound of green tomatoes
  • a pound and a half of peppers (I got a mixture of yellow and green)
  • a head of garlic
  • two rutabagas (rather large ones, yay!)

Also, three pears picked from a nearby tree. I admit to being rather relieved that there's no lettuce or bok choy; I've been having a hard time keeping up with them.

First thoughts: put the green cabbage with the head of red cabbage from the summer share in a new batch of sauerkraut, since I just finished the last of the previous batch (sauteed with sausages, onions, and apples). One of the onions, one of the sweet potatoes, and the Brussels sprouts are being cooked for Shabbat. Boil cubed rutabagas for a not-potato salad. Choose one of the Homestead Neophyte recipes for green tomatoes.

Reminder: clocks change this weekend (in the States, anyway); next week will be the first of WES: wicked early Shabbatot.

Shabbat shalom, happy weekend, happy Guy Fawkes, etc.
