Shabbat dinner
Aug. 3rd, 2007 07:26 pmIt's ridiculously hot out, which around here means ridiculously humid as well, and I am without air-conditioning, so the goal was a light, refreshing meal.
All I have left to do is assemble the green salad, which will happen after candlelighting. (I started cooking all this at 5, and fit a quick dash to the nearest supermarket in as well as some laundry, too.)
OK, I hit my head going down to the basement to deal with laundry, I almost broke my big bread bowl, and I burned two of my right fingers rather badly on hot gefilte fish. I need Shabbat already.
- wine, challah (part white, part white wheat, with flaxseed meal)
- spicy hummus, olives
- gefilte fish served with garnish of quartered Juliette tomatoes, arugula, and chipotle-horseradish mustard
- green salad with red leaf lettuces, arugula, basil, tomatoes, caramelized onions, and diced chicken breasts that were cooked with red pepper with eggplant and garlic spread, with a spicy balsamic vinaigrette
- corn and black bean salad with purple pepper, cumin, cayenne, and lime juice
- slivered cabbage sauteed with some caramelized onions
- noodles with spicy cashew sauce
- slightly gingery vegan chocolate cake and raspberries
- soy ice cream/ Italian ice (read: the nearest market has no sorbet
