Recent stuff and such
Aug. 23rd, 2005 01:55 pmFrom a link Hrafn gave, I got to a site with paper plate folding. Check out the photo gallery to see some really pretty things. (Not quite origami, since some pieces use tape or bobby pins, but still very pretty, if a bit less satisfying for the extra materials.) I might need to get a zillion-pack of paper plates...
I got to see a couple of very cool math videos this weekend, thanks to Queue. Not Knot, Turning a Sphere Inside Out, and N is a Number. The first two had some impressive graphics, though for some reason I found them more helpful to understanding the math in the first one. The latter is a documentary, which was interesting, left me with a number of questions about Paul Erdos (more about his personal history than his mathematical achievements).
Alas for summer road work in Cambridge: the eruv is projected to be down for the next month or so.
The Tomato Bunny visited work, and I'm a Brandywine richer.
Last Friday I continued my quest for skirts* at Filene's and Filene's Basement. I hadn't realized that Friday was also the Basement's Running of the Brides (the Boston Globe's photo gallery; I didn't know people came in teams!). By the time I got there after work, people who'd lined up to get in had already left, so it wasn't completely crazed. Still, it was interesting to see how women had prepared. Some were in bike shorts and thin tank tops, while others just stripped down to their underwear to try on one of the forest of dresses. There were hundreds and hundreds of them, hanging high enough to clear the ground, so I could imagine being lost in a snow-covered pine forest, unable to see out.
*unfortunately unsuccessfully; this year's styles have beads or sequins (likely to come off in the first wash), and/or not a good shape for me, and/or not a good color for me. Perhaps the fifth store I try will have something simple...
( And of course, some food. )
