Got spelt?

Plans for last night changed, so I ended up cooking after all. I had to make food that was both portable and would be fine at room temp, so decided to make pasta... only to find when I got home that I had no regular pasta at all. So, spelt spaghetti, broken into shorter lengths, with crushed tomatoes, olives, capers, chickpeas, cheddar, spices. Also a green salad with lettuce, mesclun, spinach, some bitter greens, almonds, sunflower seeds, and a balsamic vinaigrette. And applesauce, apples, the seed/nut crunch that T_W likes so much.

Off to Children's Hospital bearing dinner for friends who are there with their son, who got an infection after last week's surgery to put in a port. I so wish there were something more I could do... it can be hard to watch what they go through, after each incident having to change their expectations and hopes for him...

Sunday I went to the wedding of some friends. It was at a shul in Brookline, right across the river, so no having to figure out getting to NYC and back. It was a beautiful wedding (like every other one I've been to, though each has its own quirks).

I had an appointment with the nurse practitioner this evening. She's great. I was reminded of this as she was asking questions. Married? no. Girlfriend? Boyfriend? Just the order of those made me happy to be a patient there.

The verdict: I need to lose weight (not a surprise).
First line of attack: 20 minutes of concentrated activity/day (walking, biking, whatever), and cut down on some foods (no surprise there either).

After finishing at that hospital, down the street to the next hospital, which is my polling place. The new innovation this time was the big white privacy folders to put ballots in when done, so no one could see what was voted before it got put in the machine. This year I could have made my vote count more than usual: the lady gave me two ballots. Gave it back, but wondered about the security of the elections...
