Farm share, week 8
Aug. 3rd, 2022 06:57 pm- two watermelons (spherical, not oblong, but still)
- twenty tomatoes (I chose a mix of colors and heirloom statuses)
- two bunches of parsley
- two pounds of carrots
- three pounds of Chioggia beets
- four heads of garlic
- two biggish heads of cabbage
- four large green bell peppers
- eight hot peppers (a mix of what looks like jalapenos and longer, yellow-greenish peppers)
- four biggish squashes (a mix of zucchinis and two-tone summer squash with some green spots in the yellow part; I've decided they're leopard squash!)
First thoughts: this week's share is *heavy*! The handle broke on the bag with all the watermelon and tomatoes in it, and it was a long slog home, with many brief stops, carrying it in my arms.
As for getting through this week's bounty: I'm giving the bell peppers to friends who gave me eggplant from their share. There will be a lot of chilled watermelon, especially given tomorrow's predicted high of 98F, and staying hot (and humid, always humid here) through the weekend). If the peel is thick enough, possibly watermelon pickles. Probably roasted squash + tomato + eggplant, maybe with some garlic and parsley. Maybe some cole slaw. Not sure what else, but at least the root veggies will last a while in the fridge.
