Farm share, week 2
Jun. 24th, 2021 06:01 pm- a bunch of golden beets with greens
- a bunch of curly green kale
- four bulbs of fennel (though the fronds are abundant)
- eight Hakurei turnips
- three heads of lettuce (!)
- two large napa cabbages
- a handful of garlic scapes
- a quart of strawberries
First thoughts: whoa, that is too much lettuce for me! I've contacted a friend to see whether they're interested in some (and/or some napa). I'll massage the kale and put it something or other tbd, while the stems will go into one of the fridge pickle jars. Mashed neeps, with some potato (last week's are all fridge pickles now). I'm getting a bulk order of Georgia peaches tomorrow, so in addition to whatever canning, chicken baked with garlic scapes, fennel, and peaches sounds good right now, maybe with some roasted garlic and/or mustard. I think I'll be canning the strawberries with some rhubarb I picked up at the Davis Sq. farmers market yesterday. The beet greens will be sauteed, and I'm not sure what I want to do with the beets yet.
