Last week, I was out of town, and the friends who picked up let me know what arrived:
In this week's box:
First thoughts: cook the chard with onion, lemon, and pine nuts. Lots of green salad with the lettuce and cucumber. Perhaps a roasted ratatouille with the squashes, peppers, onions, and eggplant. Perhaps pickle the carrots and hot peppers.
- 2 large and full heads of lettuce
- even larger head (bunch?) of kale
- 3 gorgeous mid-size onions with scallion stems that just kept going
- 2 fennels
- the potted basil is in our front window
- the cutest 5 mini cucumbers.
- 2 skinny zucchini
- 4 friendly squashes, zucchini size
- biiig carrots
- 2 very dense purple cabbages
- golden oyster mushrooms
In this week's box:
- two purple peppers and two green peppers
- two jalapeno peppers
- two heads of red leaf lettuce
- a bunch of green chard
- seven carrots
- three fresh onions
- two medium Italian (violet) eggplants
- four zucchini, one golden zucchini, and a summer squash
- a bunch of cilantro (given away at the pickup)
- five pickling cucumbers
- portobello mushrooms (probably my least favorite 'fancy' mushroom, because they's so overused, but mushrooms are definitely better than no mushrooms!)
