Thanks to LibraryThing, I got an advanced reader copy of Jennifer Finney Boylan's new book, Stuck in the Middle With You, a memoir interspersed with interviews with others. Boylan's focus is on parenting and its genderedness, in both the memoir and the interviews; I realized partway through that my feelings on the matter are that the differences in people's parenting styles have more to do with the differences in individuals and societal constructs, more than specifically based on gender (other than pregnancy and nursing, which are currently mostly limited to those with female plumbing). However, I enjoy Boylan's writing, and was curious what happened after She's Not There, so it was still a good read for me.

I was particularly curious about Boylan's wife, and their relationship. This installment let me know that they're still committed to their marriage, though her wife hasn't changed her cis-gendered orientation, so their partnership seems to have shifted away from the physical, focusing on the emotional. I can't really imagine myself in that situation, as much as I can't really imagine what it must be like to be trans*; I'm still fascinated by the range of human experience so far outside what I could even imagine.
