Notes from bikes rides this week
Nov. 1st, 2008 09:08 pmFour rides this week, none particularly long, ranging from 9 to 24 miles. I really should get myself out of the house earlier, taking advantage of the weather while it's still fine.
- Favorite costume spotted Friday afternoon: a teenager dressed as a taco
(Side question: do kids go trick-or-treating with their school classes now?) - I was heading south on Rte. 3, just about to cross into Arlington, going around a curve that had a very wide shoulder. A car passed me on my left... and a motor scooter that was pacing it passed me on my right, totally startling me. So many jerks on the roads...
- I think I just missed a parade through Winchester, based on how many people still had chairs in the front yards.
- I did catch part of an impromptu rock concert at a gas station, though.
- Exploring new roads is fun, especially linking up streets I'm already familiar with.
- I was riding into the sun, and saw the angled railroad tracks a fraction of a second before crossing. I'm thankful my reflexes had me shift the bike closer to perpendicular to the tracks in time!
- It's starting to get cold out. I need to figure out appropriate layers, plus gloves, maybe booties (I know I've biked in winter before, and I have no memory whatsoever about what I wore.). At least I already have a wonderfully warm thin fleece hat, courtesy Electrictruffle a few years back.
- I found myself coming back on Prospect, and it's as miserable as I thought it would be. Totally worth turning off as soon as possible, even in the wrong direction.
- I really need to make that EL wire signaling sleeve, with dark coming so early.
- In the huh? category, signs on a pole at a gas station:
