Well, except for the winter share, but the end of the regular season.

  • a bunch of kale or collards (lacinato kale all the way)
  • three heads of garlic
  • a butternut squash
  • a gazinga head of cabbage (most of them larger than my head)
  • four pounds of sweet potatoes
  • two pounds of carrots
  • a pound and three-quarters of turnips (three kinds: red, white, off-white with a bit of purple; I concentrated on the latter)
  • a bunch of parsley or cilantro (the former, for me)

And because Breedingimperfection was again out of town for the holidays and again graciously gave me her share, imagine me carrying twice that home, plus
  • four and a half pounds of apples

I had to stop a few times on the way to rest my hands, not surprisingly.

At least one of the cabbages will go into the sauerkraut: the batch I started just before Shmini Atzeret more than filled one big square glass container, so I have what was left over in the other one, but it's far from full. Of course, that might lead to yet more leftovers...

:)

I like to stir fry it with tofu and sesame, make it into a salad by kind of marinating it in soy sauce and vinegar, shred it for tacos, sometimes stuff the big leaves.

Yum.

I've never made stuffed cabbage; might leave that for another time. (I also have read that freezing the head of cabbage makes for easier stuffed cabbage, but I can't quite picture tossing a head of cabbage in the freezer.)

Toast some mustard seeds and curry powder & garam masala, add oil & a chopped onion and saute, then add the shredded cabbage. Cook until done, adding more seasoning as needed. Oh, and use salt, of course.

Num num nummy.
