As last year, it's pretty intense, though the programming somehow feels a little less overfull (so there's time to duck down to the computer room...). I'm housed in the townhouses, which are down by the lake. And when I say 'down,' it's very much down: big hill to walk up to get to where stuff's happening. It's just enough disincentive that I haven't fought the sleepiness to make it to later night programming. (I might be enough caught up on sleep that I'll try to catch the Perseids at 3 AM tonight!)

I'm not up to making a long post, so a few little things:
  • still lots of Canada geese, as last year. I've been hissed at three times already.
  • found a frog hopping through the grass late the first night. I suppose it's silly how happy this made me.
  • Mom had won a fundraising auction item, a family portrait, which she arranged to have done at the Institute. As it turns out, it was the same guy who did my high school yearbook photos. Too strange. (And he's still the kind who poses people in particular not-quite-realistic-feeling ways, rather than catching the subject being themselves. Not my preferred style.)
  • crocheted a tan and brown necklace in the first two days here. It's now in the silent auction, along with a half-pint of cran-apricot jam.

And as it turns out, the photographer's skills hadn't gotten magically better; the photos look like golfing images of the family, with everyone a little bit tan and too-white teeth. Odd non-us photos.
