Little stuff
May. 15th, 2008 04:19 pmI was walking over the Longfellow this morning, and saw one of those little fridge poetry magnets in the detritus on the edge. I had to stop: how could I not, when I had the chance to embrace the power of 'and'? :-)
For locals: this weekend Boston Costume is having a sale (it's now at the Garment District, near Kendall).
I paid this month's stupid tax. Tuesday I was coming home late, very tired and needing dinner. I was circling for parking, paying attention on the side streets because I knew it was street cleaning in the morning. I still have no idea why I then spaced about checking on Cambridge Street, nor why it didn't click in the morning when I heard the street sweeping warning and the sweepers themselves, even though I knew which side I'd parked on and which side they were sweeping. Those two pieces of information never quite got to the same part of my brain or something, until the afternoon when I went to get the car. *sigh* On the plus side, all the people I dealt with to retrieve the car were very nice, the tow was cheaper than it will be next week (prices go up $10 to $85, and it'll be a whopping $110 if it's during a snow emergency), and I was able to pay the ticket online quite easily. The part that really bugs me is that I was thinking about street sweeping. I just botched being sensible about it.
My cousin is visiting, and I got to hear a family story I'd never heard before. Necessary information: our mothers are identical twins, and my youngest first cousin is about two years younger than me. So. When my youngest cousin (visiting cousin's little brother) was about 3, they came to visit. My mom opened the door, and little cousin looked up and said "Mommy!" Then he looked at his mom, and said, "I've got two mommies!"
I can't believe I've never heard this before last night!
I am unlikely to go back to the Starbucks in Davis Square. I was there last Tuesday, and got to see a mouse skittering along and dashing under a sofa.
I'm getting more used to the clipless pedals, but it's still not at all automatic. I don't know how long it will take to get into body memory, but I wish it were quicker; I'm ready not to be so hyperaware every time I'm about to stop. ("OK, get ready, I'll stop right there, foot will have to come out, don't lean too much to that side or I might fall, what if the cleat doesn't release? Calm down, it'll be fine. But what if... Stop.")
And not at all little, though short: marriage equity in CA! Huzzah! (Yes, I know that my religion is not always welcoming to non-hetero people. The state should have no such concerns. That's what separation of church and state means.)
