As any other nonprofit, ASP is always happy to have volunteers. I said I'd be willing to help out, and ended up working on taking down the set from The Tempest at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center. I got to play with power tools (well, tool: a screwdriver, used in reverse, to dismantle pieces of wood) and hand tools (taking apart the risers and getting tiny nails out of the stage), fold (fabric used for curtains; it's heavy stuff) and carry (stacks and stacks of chairs* downstairs, balanced on my head). In other words, grunt work, but useful, and challenging enough that some muscles were sore the next day. I helped get a truckload of stuff out to their storage facility, which is dangerously close to the New England Mobile Book Fair (luckily, I was giving people rides, so I resisted temptation). And I met some cool people. I might help with the next show(King John! I've never seen it before.), if the timing is good.

* I hate their chairs. They're only moderately comfortable, and while they do, technically, stack, they frequently need cajoling to do it properly.
