[Arisia] random
Jan. 23rd, 2008 05:27 pmI saw far, far too many people to list here. No one for long enough, of course, but that's the nature of the beast. *hugs all around*
Sudden thought: cons are like the best bits of college, with all your friends around and no boring grown-up obligations. No wonder I like them so much :-)
I really liked the pocket programs this year, with the fold-out schedules.
Having registration be by the front doors makes so much more sense, and works for people flow too.
I'd very like more hang out space (with comfortable seating), likely on the first floor, since that's where space might be found that people meander through, rather than to. First thoughts include the hallway where the fliers were, or the anteroom space by the ballrooms.
I missed the view of the river I had last year. Overlooking the entrance and the parking garage is just not the same. Being on the 4th floor also meant that I wasn't always going through the restaurant as I was last year. Which meant I wasn't always running into people as they had a meal. In general, the flow felt very different. I'm not sure why.
Things I missed: the art show, the Dr. Who panel (who put it at dinner time?), the tribble bash, the rest of the radio drama things, Cecelia Tan's reading, some of the vendors.
The hotel has a kiosk for automagic check-in and check-out! I didn't have to wait in line for a human.
Bringing a timer for one of the lamps was good. It would have been better had I not accidentally left another lamp on through Shabbat too.
There was a bit of a fridge saga. First there was no fridge. Then there was one they hadn't plugged in, because if they had, they'd've found that the plug didn't fit into the outlet. Once I'd fixed that, it fooled me into thinking it worked because I could feel the vibrations of the compressor. So it took a while until I realized it didn't. It took another four hours or so until a working fridge showed up, this time plugged in. I didn't notice it at first, because they'd left the dead one there. It stayed there through the weekend, often fooling me into thinking it was an actual fridge, rather than a fridge-like object.
