XKCD meetup
Oct. 1st, 2007 03:04 pmI couldn't resist going to the XKCD meetup, 2:38 P.M. a week ago Sunday (read: I need to catch up in my posts!) in Reverend Thomas J. Williams Park, on Cedar St. in north Cambridge. Many people on my friendslist couldn't resist either (*waves to many*), and neither could a lot of the rest of the local geek population, many sporting excellent science, math, or XKCD T-shirts.
I ran into Ruthling, who's posted some lovely photos. There are a lot more photos over at Flickr, and the artist has posted about it, too. I discovered that I don't study the comics nearly as much as I could... or perhaps that as with so many other things, I enjoy but am not really in the fandom.
I had a fun time, but didn't stick around long enough for a lot of it, having not enough energy for crowds, plus a lot that needed to get done before the holiday (Happily, I had a particularly productive day, so it was satisfying all around.). The things I remember best include the guy with the [citation needed] sign, the revised park signs, lots of chalk drawings, and the retractable tape measure competitions.
