Morning notes
Jun. 20th, 2007 11:58 amThere was a nasturtium flower on my porch this morning! I win! Bright orange-red, the first of many (I hope). It is no longer: I put it in the salad I brought for breakfast, plus some marigolds and chives from the porch as well. (I still have enough salad greens from last week's farm share for another big salad; I should have been more diligent this week about salad-for-one, especially since my current default salad also makes a dent in the citrus backlog.)
It's always a happy thing to be passed by dozens of bicycling commuters each morning.
The humidity is oppressive (I move slower when it's this sticky, for one thing), but at least it's overcast, so I didn't need my hat and therefore could catch any breeze that meandered by.

Date: 2007-06-20 04:27 pm (UTC)(I really like growing things I can eat; with a little porch, I focus on the edible. It's always cool to find flowers I can grow and eat, so it's not all greenery and a few tomatoes. My usual suspects: marigolds, nasturtiums, chive flowers. If it were shadier, I might try growing violets. And while I like the idea of squash blossoms, I'm not sure I have room for that kind of vine without getting some trellis-y thing.)

Date: 2007-06-21 01:53 am (UTC)I hear you about the humidity. Since I almost died when I went for a run at 6pm on Monday, I figured I'd go early in the morning today, when it's still cool. Not. I mean, it was sort of cool and breezy, but the humidity sat in my lungs like a wet blanket. Not really conducive to running. At one point I was going uphill and I really didn't seem to be moving at all.

Date: 2007-06-21 03:12 pm (UTC)I'd never try running/long walks right after work when the weather's like this (biking's a little easier, since you make your own breeze a lot of the time, and carrying water with is routine). I have times walking in this when I feel I'm not getting anywhere either.
