Pico-review: ginger spread
Jan. 18th, 2007 08:51 pmThe latest new product from Trader Joe's. Two ingredients, ginger and cane sugar (yes, in that order). It took a while to see that there was a hechsher from Hong Kong (HKK, Hong Kong Kosher) on the edge of the label; when I did, I had to buy two, just in case they vanished.
I've had some on toast, and it's powerful stuff, even for a confirmed ginger-holic like me. It'll be great on top of protein slabs, or swirled into baked goods; I hope it makes the cut and is kept awhile.
eta Ooh! I could use it as the base of a ginger chutney! /edit

Date: 2007-01-19 02:25 am (UTC)The checkout person said it's pretty new, so it should be around for at least a month or two before they evaluate sales. Of course, the problem is that they look at sales in the region rather than by individual store... so I have to convince lots of people around the area to buy some :-)

Date: 2007-01-19 07:08 am (UTC)Were you somehow already familiar with that particular heksher? I haven't seen it, that I recall.

Date: 2007-01-19 02:04 pm (UTC)I wasn't familiar with the hechsher; I tend to be liberal when it comes to hechsherim from countries that seem unlikely to have many Jews/much kosher food (which is to say, I accept the Indian hechsher on the heat-n-eat Indian meals that Trader Joe's and the Butcherie carry, too).
