The latest new product from Trader Joe's. Two ingredients, ginger and cane sugar (yes, in that order). It took a while to see that there was a hechsher from Hong Kong (HKK, Hong Kong Kosher) on the edge of the label; when I did, I had to buy two, just in case they vanished.

I've had some on toast, and it's powerful stuff, even for a confirmed ginger-holic like me. It'll be great on top of protein slabs, or swirled into baked goods; I hope it makes the cut and is kept awhile.

eta Ooh! I could use it as the base of a ginger chutney! /edit

Yes!

The checkout person said it's pretty new, so it should be around for at least a month or two before they evaluate sales. Of course, the problem is that they look at sales in the region rather than by individual store... so I have to convince lots of people around the area to buy some :-)

OMG OMG OMG!

is it too sweet?

Definitely not too sweet. It's more that there's sugar in there to take the edge of the bite off. Much less sugar than in the crystallized slices.

(Right now in the one near you it's featured at the produce end of the left side of the both-sides freezer aisle.)

Enabler!

I assume all the Trader Joe's have them; in case not, I got this at the Memorial Drive one (nearest Arisia :-).

Soon. I'm looking forward to finding out what all the fuss is about, having never been in one. :-)

It's not a full grocery store, but what it has tends to be good quality, sometimes organic, mostly non-GM stuff, at reasonable prices.

Time to hit either Mem Drive or Boylston St, methinks.

Boylston St. is much smaller; I don't know how they decide which things they'll carry there.

Sounds good, and a nice thing to have when sick, I imagine. It's cooked down like a jam?

Were you somehow already familiar with that particular heksher? I haven't seen it, that I recall.

It's a spread, so I assume it's cooked some, also pureed in some way.

I wasn't familiar with the hechsher; I tend to be liberal when it comes to hechsherim from countries that seem unlikely to have many Jews/much kosher food (which is to say, I accept the Indian hechsher on the heat-n-eat Indian meals that Trader Joe's and the Butcherie carry, too).

A bit of salmon fillet, or a piece of chicken, or turkey, or a slice of tofu, or a piece of cheese...

....and it's gone from Trader Joe's now, and has been for months. I have one jar left, that I won't open until after Pesach.
