The five state slogans still in the running are
  1. "New Jersey: Love at First Sight"
  2. "New Jersey: The Real Deal"
  3. "New Jersey: Come See for Yourself"
  4. "New Jersey: Expect the Unexpected"
  5. "New Jersey: The Best Kept Secret"

They all lead to questions (What secrets? Is it possible to expect the right unexpected (whatever that is)? etc.). And they're all bland, though that may be a function of trying to come up with a state slogan these days.

Wow. These are definitely... options.

"New Jersey: Love at First Sight"

Come on. We've all been there. Who are they kidding?

"New Jersey: The Real Deal"

The Real Deal? Wasn't that a John Kerry slogan? We all know how well that turned out...

"New Jersey: Come See for Yourself"

This is a bit more honest than #1. There are no promises: just a pragmatic suggestion. You don't believe me? Come see for yourself!

"New Jersey: Expect the Unexpected"

And I think we do. We certainly do. (http://www.weirdnj.com/)

"New Jersey: The Best Kept Secret"

No, I think that would have to be Delaware. Or Montana. (What do they do in Delaware and Montana, anyways? Does anybody know?)

Critiquingly,
Hyoun

I think the best kept secret might be one of the Dakotas. Delaware has all those virtual corporations and credit card companies, while Montana has people vacationing to look at their sky. Or something like that.

how about

I like "Come See for Yourself." And although I could make many NJ jokes, I shall refrain from doing so, out of respect.

I suppose that at least encourages first-time visitors...

Well, southern NJ is significantly better than the northern, toxic part, so it might qualify as a secret.

Maybe they should go with the punchline from some famous NJ jokes ala

I've been to Cape May NJ, and it's gorgeous down there. But all the northern NJ bits are what most people see.

Tags still on, not yet worn for a single football game?

I hear it's been decided: "Come See for Yourself" is the winner.

What happened to "New Jersey and You: Perfect Together" anyway?

Don't know why people are coming down on northern New Jersey specifically. There are some gorgeous areas in the northern part of the state. The southern part of the state is where I noticed big changes, with farms becoming office parks.

I think northern New Jersey near NYC has a reputation for ugly factories, whether or not there are also pretty areas too.

Frankly, I like the old slogan better; it's much more positive. Though I suppose "Come See for Yourself" isn't the worst of the bunch (heck, if everyone in the US came to NJ once, that would be a boost to the economy, even if most didn't return).
