Tomatoes?

The farm is offering bulk tomatoes: $20 for 20 lb of plum tomatoes, and $10 for a half bushel of seconds (no variety specified). They're organic, too.

Is anyone interested in going in with me on some tomatoes? (I should call by Monday to make the Wednesday farm pickup.)

ETA I don't have a scale at home; should we approximate or can someone bring theirs to divvy the tomatoes up?

Hell yeah. That's a damned good price. I'm in. Perhaps we can talk appropriate quantity that I'd buy in for on Saturday.

And um, how much is a half bushel. I'd be willing to go in on that also--I'm thinking it would be fun to make my own spaghetti sauce (something I have done before but not in a very long time.)

Googling has got me a variety of answers as to how much half a bushel is in tomatoes. Somewhere around 30 lb.

the spaghetti sauce making is also my plan. i'm thinking the plum tomatoes won't work as well for that?

i'd gladly split the half bushel of the unspecifieds though.

Plum tomatoes are actually very good for spaghetti sauce.

(Which reminds me, if there's room for me to get 5lbs of the plum tomatoes I'd be interested - will they allow people to get more than 20lbs?)

At least, I'm fairly certain (95%) I can get more than 20 lb...

I can get more than 20 lb of the plums, though I'm not sure if it must be in 20-lb increments.

Well, if my 5lbs must be upped to 10, I think I am willing to make the sacrifice.

Plum tomatoes, as Wolf noted, are good for spaghetti sauce, partly because they've got less liquid to cook off.
