A couple of coworkers were talking about how there should be some kind of business where one could go rent a space to nap in. As someone else called it, a napparium. There'd be lots of options: levels of light (dark, low, or more of the sense of a beach at midday?), sleeping surface (bed, recliner, hammock, and something over sand, perhaps?), air (not only temperature, but movement), sound (nothing, nature sounds, yoga-ish music, and so on), maybe even smells. Plus milk and cookies when you wake up, of course. Perfect for the lull between work and an evening out when there's not time to go home, or for a midday siesta, or just a power nap away from the office.

An earlier entry's thread has made me think more about birth certificates. Reproductive technology and societal changes have taken the "birth" out of birth certificates, since they're modified when someone gains new parents by adoptions, or changes physical gender. But "birth certificate" seems to me something that should reflect one's birth circumstances, and there should be some other kind of document to deal with later changes, one that has equal legal validity. Even with this, though, there would be questions about birth circumstances. Is it the people who've contributed genetic material? The people preparing to care for the child now that it's born? What about surrogacy; does that lead to more than two parents listed?

I remembered to water the porch plants this morning (a good thing, since the sage was totally unhappy), and there are four more sungolds ripening. Also, a morning glory flower, the first of the season (that I've seen, anyway). And I finally got around to planting the ginger that's been growing on air for months now, adding it to the pot with the other ginger, the ones that surprised me by coming back this year. I still don't really know when one should harvest ginger (Is it seasonal? wWhen the plant dies down?), and how, to leave enough to grow later.

And speaking of ginger, I can't resist quoting some lovely ginger erotica from Tigers and Strawberries:
And then, there is ginger.

Oh, ginger--she is sweet, and she is fiery. She is a wicked lady, full of secrets and delights. She kisses citrus and turns sour into sweet, then minces demurely along, holding hands with sugar and lending her fragrance to scones, cookies and cakes. And then she tosses her head and leaps into the wok, flinging herself into a wild tarantella that releases her sultry fury.

I don't know if I'll ever make the recipe, but wow.

*grin*

I could use one, too. Preferably one with a time-turner, so I could nap as long as I needed without losing any work time...
