The trains at Park Street weren't moving today, and it took a while for the messages to become intelligible, that there was bus service instead. I opted to walk, so I got to see the traffic diverted around the Public Garden for no apparent reason, then the emergency vehicles by my office, at the end of the Arlington stop. Lots of people in orange, lots of flashing lights. Apparently two trolleys collided (rear-ended?) at Arlington, and one worker was taken to the hospital. Everyone else is ok, if shaken. I'm still not sure why the traffic was being diverted so many blocks away, though. This, plus finding the building had lost power until this morning, makes things feel unsettled.

Of course, it all pales in comparison to the real troubles in London. Ready-made perspective, in advance, with a side order of sadness.

Apparently I missed being *in* one of those trolleys by about 15-45 minutes. Yikes.

I'm wondering how it happened, since there are traffic lights and all telling them when it's safe. Plus, at the Arlington stop, it's a straightaway, so even if the lights weren't working, you can still see the train ahead.

(I'd assumed the problem was at Arlington, since there's that huge curve there, prime for accidents, compounded by lack of sight lines. But no.)

Ah, so that's why there was chatter on the bus radio this morning redirecting off-shift buses to Park.

Yup. They let lots of people pack onto trains for far too long this morning. And the announcements were mostly in Charlie Brown's mom language for too long, as well.

(I'm sure you meant to say that you'd assumed the problem was at Boylston.)

(Er, yeah. I don't know why I can't keep the names straight. The stops are very distinct in my mind... but the names don't stick with them.)
