I'm glad the Londoners I know are safe (even if not necessarily able to get home).

Someone posted a text in [livejournal.com profile] london_070705* of al-Qaida's European Jihad branch, stating that they were attacking the "British Zionist Crusader Government." Which is, of course, ridiculous.

But the irreverent part of me wonders. Wouldn't this mean that there should be a ministry of (caped) Zionist Crusaders? (I can so picture a comic here. Something with kibbutznikim debating politics of the collective, perhaps, before our caped hero comes to resolve the discussion?) Or greater encouragement to eat Israeli fruit? Or governmental support of the Israelis? Or at least a greater variety of kosher sandwiches in downtown London?

* And I'm impressed with the LJ community again. The account was started this morning, and people are checking in, offering help, and so on.

The trains at Park Street weren't moving today, and it took a while for the messages to become intelligible, that there was bus service instead. I opted to walk, so I got to see the traffic diverted around the Public Garden for no apparent reason, then the emergency vehicles by my office, at the end of the Arlington stop. Lots of people in orange, lots of flashing lights. Apparently two trolleys collided (rear-ended?) at Arlington, and one worker was taken to the hospital. Everyone else is ok, if shaken. I'm still not sure why the traffic was being diverted so many blocks away, though. This, plus finding the building had lost power until this morning, makes things feel unsettled.

Of course, it all pales in comparison to the real troubles in London. Ready-made perspective, in advance, with a side order of sadness.
