Outlook weirdness

The program (technically, Outlook Express) told me I have two new messages. But they're not in my inbox, nor do I have any rules set up to sent things directly to folders. Anyone have an idea what's going on, and how I can remedy this?

Did someone send you mail and then try to recall it? I don't know how Outlook Express handles that, but it used to confuse Outlook back when I had to use that at a previous job.

Possible, but I've seen this happen enough times that it seems unlikely an explanation, at least for all of them. The other thing I realized after posting is that I haven't been paying attention to certain numbers; it might be that there has been very delayed email showing up, which, since I have it set up to be chronological, isn't apparent....
