The stuff still to do tonight (not necessarily in order): kasher the sink. Cover almost everything. Tape the cabinets. Get out the Passover implements and food. Buy stuff (plastic covers, foil pans, sugar, scrubbies, vegetables). Dispose of leftovers. Get rid of futon frame. Eat dinner. Get a good night's sleep.

My [least?] favorite state, Texas, is earning my respect yet again, this time with a bill to ban gay couples as foster parents. Speechless, really.

Gaming: not dead yet.

Did I say marathon runners were insane? I hadn't yet heard of Dean Karnazes, who's run up to 262 miles at a time.

upcoming:
Somerville Open Studios April 30 and May 1.
North Cambridge Open Studios May 14 and 15.
Brookline Open Studios May 21 and 22.
Cambridge's Dance month is the whole month of May, with lots of interesting performances and classes.

Oh, and I'm very glad yesterday's temperatures in the 80s were a fluke; I'm so not ready for hot weather.

Because foster families, especially stable ones, are so easy to come by.

Yup. Which is part of the point in the article, focusing on a couple who've fostered around 80 (!) kids (not 80! though :-), and adopted 4 of them.

Eh, I don't follow external links when using lynx (which I am this morning). I just needed to vent my sarcasm to a suitable audience.

They are lucky, though, to have been able to adopt 4. The system is so skewed that the chances of actually being able to adopt one of your foster kids is pretty low. It's one of the reasons I could not go into social work. (I did think long and hard though.)

One of the docs I work with is a hardcore runner like this. He has done a few 100-mile (in one run) runs. Last summer he started his run at PacBell Stadium in San Francisco and finished at Fenway Park. Now granted, he was running in a team of three -- he'd run 20 miles, the next guy would run, and then the third -- but that's still 1000 miles or so of running in about a month. Yes, some of these runners are truly insane!

This guy enters 200 mile races meant for 7-person teams, and run it all himself.
