news bits
Now that the Big Dig's over (right?), it doesn't give me the warm fuzzies to find that it's not necessarily safe. Which is not to say it's unsafe, 'cause we know that all the top officials would close it down immediately if so. However, consultant Jack Lemley is "now unable to express an opinion as to the safety" of the tunnel. And he claims he's been blocked from getting access to some papers, too. After they'd gotten his report they upped the number of sections that had leaks from 4 to 44. Somehow, that starts to sound like the tip of the iceberg.

And on a completely different note, Death Valley has gotten triple its usual rainfall, and it's blooming, to an extent rarely seen. It makes me want to take a camera and find a plane ticket.

crochet
Last night I crocheted a small Moebius strip. I've also made a plain loop and a loop with a whole twist, all the same size, for comparison. Perhaps next I'll try the interlocking loops that form when a Moebius strip is cut in thirds...

Many thanks to Queue and Ruthling, for camera loans. I'm looking forward to taking non-monochromatic pictures, when the weather warms up just a little bit more.

Any idea how long the bloom lasts? My dad has always raved about Anza Borrego, but I never visited when I lived in San Diego. I'm going to be visiting my folks in San Diego in early June and wonder whether the wildflowers might still be in bloom.

It's almost certainly going to be too late: http://www.anzaborrego.statepark.org/wildflowers.html

The season starts in December or January. I recall going in March. You can visit the park in June, and it might be really interesting, but few flowers.
