Brookline's First Light is this Thursday evening. The schedule includes a bunch of performances and open houses around a variety of Brookline neighborhoods.
I hadn't planned to, due to needing to acquire lots and lots of groceries and such (and certain places only open later on Thursdays).
*juggles errands in head*
Um, maybe? I haven't finished my list-izing and such yet. If I have to get out to Watertown tomorrow evening, then it won't work. When is the latest I can get back to you?
I wish I'd heard about this sooner... I might've been able to juggle errands differently to leave the evening free.
I hadn't even been thinking of Shabbat cooking. Can we add a (non-workday) between Thursday and Friday this week?
OK, I should be able to let you know tomorrow morning. (My quandary isn't just cooking and shopping for the weekend, but that I'm also in the midst of one of those elusive getting-rid-of-stuff moods, which I'd like to take as much advantage of as possible. Which is really the reason I'm tending towards trying to stay home and get more done in the re-invention of my apartment's space.)
Unfortunately, I'm not going to go this year :-(. Not enough notice (I just found out about it Tuesday) with too many other things that have to get done. Guh.
But you might be able to link up with Gnomi and MABfan...
Well, I got much erranding done, but there's still too much to do around the house (that I can actually face doing... :-), so, regretfully, I'm going to have to pass. Phooey. Twould've been fun to go to with you (not to mention the general hanging-out goodness).
Some are Harvard Street, though those can be done Sunday morning. As I mentioned to Gnomi, the time-for-errands isn't wholly what's keeping me from saying yes; it's also the rare mood of stuff-divestment that I want to use while it's visiting.
Thinking ahead 'til tomorrow... According to the weather report I heard yesterday, it should be above freezing tomorrow. Of course that will likely change.
I haven't quite figured that part out. My guess is something to do with kicking off the 'holiday season', early enough in the year that it's not horribly frigid to be walking outside, but that's only a guess.
well, you see, if it's before thanksgiving, then it's not christmas shopping. so it's a way of getting christmas shopping out of all the non-christmas-celebrating people.
Well, given the significant Jewish population of Brookline, and the early dates for Hannukah this year, having a first night works as a good reminder to do whatever shopping early.
More importantly, it is a way to try to help out our local business community. With so many people shopping on line for things, a lot of local business owners have been feeling the pinch. Brookline Village, especially, has a lot more empty storefronts than they've had in quite a few years.
And First Light is actually a lot of fun, especially for the kids, In previous years, stores have sponsored jugglers, magicians and singers. Looking at the list this year, there's more of the same. I'm particularly interested in the Klezmer and the jazz performance they've posted on the schedule.

Date: 2004-11-17 07:50 am (UTC)Thursday morning, I think. My plan is to do my shabbat cooking tonight, if I can, so Thursday night will be free for us.
