Stent-cleaning wasn't enough. My dad's having a bypass Friday, and gets to spend up to a week in the hospital.

I hope that's it, and everything goes smoothly.

I don't know if this will ease your fears, but coronary artery bypass surgery is the most commonly performed procedure in the United States. More than appendectomy. More than tonsillectomy. More than C-section.

I know that it's a common surgery now; I'm just concerned that when they get in there they'll find something else, more dire. I don't know what, exactly, but since he's had a history of heart issues... I just worry.

Thank you. If things go as planned, surgery will be finished by 6 pm Friday, so I hope he'll be able to have a recuperative Shabbat (though it still looks like the earliest he'll get to leave the hospital is Tuesday).

Hang in there, you guys. We're all with you. (My dad had quadruple bypass surgery; I remember how much it sucked and how helpless I felt to do anything about it). You'll be in my thoughts.
